Content:
Wondering why someone can't unmute? Or why they can? How about why some people can like a message and others can't even get into the meeting? Come to our talk and learn all about the different permissions and other security settings that affect who can do what and when in Teams! Lot of demos and we'll even try to break some things!
Below are the questions and answers from the September 2021 Meetup Session.

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself? – City, family, hobbies, job title
A. From Baltimore, MD, I’m married with 2 20-something kids. My title is SME (Subject Matter Expert) but that just means I do anything they ask me, currently SharePoint development. Hobbies? What are those.

Q. Tell us something about yourself that not many people know about you?
A. I enjoy helping out with TechGirlz (www.techgirlz.org)

Q. What does a typical workday look like for you?
A. Write some code, meeting, support my site admins, meeting, fix some issues, meeting, meeting, and more meetings.

Q. 1st job out of college
A. Bartender

Q. Your 1st version of SharePoint that you experienced and what year
A. Tahoe, 2000

Q. Last challenging project and why? (this should relate to your demo)
A. Teaching my Team Teams, because they aren’t that technical.

Q. What is the biggest mistake that your feel holds back your clients from the results they want (this should relate to your demo)
A. Incorrect expectations.

Q. Describe a SharePoint train wreck project, and what did you learn?
A. A site was very hard coded and any change broke it. Add a column to a list, home page broke. Learned to read the documentation, twice.

Q. Your favorite M365 feature/tool and why
A. OneDrive, syncing to my C drive is sweet.

Q. Where do you think Microsoft is going with M365.. Be totally honest
A. Total world domination.

What are the 3 cool features of the demo?
Seeing the web based tool to show off Teams features to new users.
Seeing how Teams and SharePoint work together.
Seeing how guests are created (or not) in your tenant and how that can affect what they can do in meetings and in Teams.

What is the sizzle?
Popping the Teams hood a bit and having a look inside.

Q. What was your first job out of hire school
A. Busboy (during high school, then “promoted” to bartender)

Q. What's your biggest nightmare project you have worked on … And what did you learn from this experience
A. Having two junior devs go in the total wrong direction for 3 months. I should have been more involved up front and not let their overconfidence blind my gut instinct.

Q. What’s the best and worst tech advice you’ve been given
A. Best - Leave a problem and come back to it later. Worst – become an expert in technology such & such (like Silverlight). Tech comes and goes too fast to spend too much time specializing in any one for too long.

Q. What are you working on to become a developer/consultant / CTO
A. Certifications. Love me some exams.

Q. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
A. Right where I am now.

Q. What's your blind spot in your Microsoft knowledge? Pitfalls
A. What will really take off versus what has already failed or will. It’s tough to figure out where to spend time (see Silverlight example).

Q. Where do you source your knowledge? - Twitter- who do you follow, site urls
A. Stackoverflow, Scott Hanselman, Marc Anderson, www.google.com

Q. In your mind, if there was 1 song that could describe Sharepoint, what would it be? - David Bowie - Heroes
A. Blink 182 - Dammit

Q. Where can people find you?
A. twitter.com/@DavidEPatrick
