Now figured out how to go on vacation, in today’s fast paced world.
I was out of the office for 2 weeks…Yes unheard of in the States.
Firstly, a few days prior to the leave date I put the auto reply ‘out of the office’ setting on. This levels folks expectation on my response time and gives them a heads up that I’m out of the office. Also stops invites being sent to me.
I’ll leave this setting on for a day, so I can get a better handle on what’s going on with everything, on the first day back.
During the vacation, checked email most days, for about an hour, with web access.
Unfortunately in today’s fast paced world, arriving at work on Monday morning and saying ‘I’ve got 300 emails to go through…I’ll get back to you tomorrow’ doesn’t work.
